The Junior Premier Sports league was founded in January 2002. The league was formed to support local private schools by offering youth sports leagues in basketball, flag football, and soccer in coordination with the after-school offerings at each of the participating schools. The leagues operate very much like high school sports teams, with each school organizing their team and practicing on-campus during the school week. Students compete alongside their classmates, wearing their school colors, and playing versus other local schools.

Saint Thomas Episcopal Parish School and Alexander School are the founding schools of the league, and both schools participate in the league to this day! The Junior Premier Sports league has expanded to include local charter schools, along with the traditional private school members.
